Spoiler Alert! This is the master outline for Husbands & Lies, where I'm banging out notes about future chapters and logging all kinds of surprise twists. If you just want to enjoy the story as it gets written (and savor the surprises), please don't read this entry.
Chapter One
Quest for the Ring. At breakfast, when Thomas realizes he's forgotten his 10th anniversary with Briggs, he pretends that he's planned a trip to shop for wedding rings. At the store, things go badly when the boys discover the jewelry store's Spring Specials apply only to heterosexual couples -- or, as the counter puts it, "People who can really get married." Afterward, Thomas pouts ... but when the pair get home, a sleek limo is parked outside their house, waiting for them.
Chapter Two
Kim Adder tells Thomas and Briggs about Nick's story: reclusive genius creates amazing pattern-detection software, licenses it to credit card companies, ad agencies, and the military, and earns more money than God. Now he's wanting to reconnect with people who treated him well before he was rich, and that includes a number of high school friends -- like Thomas. How about an all expense paid trip to Thailand?
Chapter Three
Thomas is all about going, but Briggs seems determined to look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth. After a particularly sour incident, though, the two commit to the trip as a way to celebrate their tenth anniversary together.
Chapter
Arrival in Bangkok, at the Shangri La. Meet Nick, who has recreated himself entirely. Also Peter and Zac, plus Trent and Cheryl. The gang's all here.
Chapter
Chapter
The boys arrange to fly home on their own dime. Confronted by a passenger who suggests the two are not really married, Thomas takes a stand -- not something he would have done before the trip. A gay flight attendant honors the ugly-spirited passenger's request for a change of seat ... by moving Thomas and Briggs up to first class.
Chapter Final
The Big Wedding
