Which of the characters are you? I'm none of them. While some of the characters will invariably possess qualities or characteristics common to me or people I've met along the way, none of these characters is a redress of a real person. I designed these characters, their backstories, and their strengths and weaknesses with an eye toward maximizing their potential for dramatic encounters -- nothing more. Please don't mistake any of my characters for me or any of my friends.
Are the places you mention in Thailand real? Many are, and others are "hyper-real" -- exaggerated or enhanced for dramatic purposes. My goal here isn't to create a documentary; instead, I want to provide a travel experience that's a "dynamic equivalent" (or that "feels like being there") of going to the real place. To do that on the page, certain details must be tweaked.
Have you noticed that some of this novel is really awful? Yep. Sucks, doesn't it? Just remember, though: in the time it's taken you to critique my work, I'm 300 words closer to reaching my goals and making my dreams come true. What have you achieved today?
